Medical Diagnostic Systems provides solutions for:
natural bypass, scottcare, viacare, vendys, endothelial function, vascular function measurement, sudoscan, sudomotor
function assessment, diabetes testing, endopat, ecp, external counter pulsation, anti-angina treatment, vasodilation,
nitro headaches. chf, congestive heart failure, lvh failure, and shortness of breath, in the Naperville and Chicago
areas of Illinois.
The degeneration of small nerve fibers reduces sweat gland innervation and impairs sudomotor function.
Sudomotor function is known to reflect sympathetic activity and to provide insight into postganglionic
autonomic innervation. Its assessment represents a useful tool to evaluate autonomic disorders.
Investigation of sudomotor function can help in early detection of a number of conditions.
Sweat gland comparison
SUDOSCAN measures the capacity of the sweat glands to release chloride ions in response to an
electrochemical activation. It is a dynamic test equivalent to a stress test. The information is then
used to determine the patient’s condition and risk.
SUDOSCAN testing detail
A low voltage of variable amplitude is applied to electrodes on the skin and the electrical potential
difference caused by the electrochemical reaction on these electrodes is measured. SUDOSCAN uses four
independent electrodes placed on body regions with a high density of sweat glands (hands, feet).
Sample test results
Following a brief data sampling period, the conductances which are related to the concentration of
the extracted chloride from the sweat are displayed graphically on the touch screen.
According to the conductances measured on hands and feet, a score is calculated and results are
displayed according to this risk score with a color index. (Green: no risk, Yellow: moderate risk,
Red: high risk.)
Below is a video presentation showing how SUDOSCAN works.
SUDOSCAN Test Results
SUDOSCAN assesses symmetric neuropathies
Most of diabetic neuropathies are symmetric on both limbs. One of our recent clinical
study has demonstrated that SUDOSCAN assesses symmetric neuropathies.
SUDOSCAN detects peripheral neuropathy of hands and feet
Correlation coefficient between foot ESC and VPT was -0.45 (p<0.0001).
Correlation coefficient between foot ESC and retinopathy status was -0.42 (p<0.0001).
SUDOSCAN detects cardiac autonomic neuropathy
Electrochemical Sweat Conductance measured by SUDOSCAN reflects sweat function, which
is sympathetic dependant.
